Wilson-Zapata Grau Anniversary

Rachel Johanna Wilson of Lexington, Kentucky and Rafael Zapata Grau of Barranquilla, Colombia, were married May 28, 2016, at Southern Hills United Methodist Church in Lexington, Kentucky. Reverend Travis Garner, of Brentwood, Tennessee cousin of the bride, officiated. Music for the ceremony was provided by James Humlong, organ/piano, and Morgan McLallen, of Houston, Texas, cousin of the bride, flute and violin. During the ceremony, bilingual readings and scripture were shared by Erin Robinson of North Carolina, lifelong friend of the bride; Soraya Rozo, friend of the couple, of Bogota, Colombia, and Marilyn Wilson, of San Jose, California, aunt of the bride. Rachel is the daughter of Fran and John Wilson of Lexington. Rafael is the son of Mildred Grau Sanchez and Luis Zapata Valderrama of Barranquilla, Colombia. The wedding party consisted of Matron of honor, Laura Pyles, of Winnipeg, Manitoba; Maid of honor, April Young, of Lexington; and bridesmaids Lucianne Chiles Junker, of Lexington; Paola Morales of Lima, Peru; Christi Pepper of Punta Gorda, Florida; and Abby Phillips of Conway, Arkansas. Best man was Orlando Ropero, of Buenos Aires, Argentina; groomsmen Alfredo Perez, of Columbus, Georgia; Juan Uribe, of Bogota, Colombia; and Andres Zapata, brother of the groom, of Bogota, Colombia. Dinner and dancing at the Campbell House followed the ceremony with entertainment provided during the Hora Loca (crazy hour) by salsa dancers from The Salsa Center of Lexington. Rachel graduated from Henry Clay High School in Lexington and Transylvania University with Bachelor's degree in Spanish. She also earned a Master's degree in Hispanic Studies from the University of Kentucky and a Master's degree in International Relations from the Maxwell School at Syracuse. After graduation Rachel worked for the Fulbright commission in Bogota and is currently employed in the Public Affairs Section of the US Embassy in Bogota. Rafael graduated from Universidad Javeriana in Cali, Colombia with a degree in Electronic Engineering and is employed by Rockwell Automation Colombia as a Technical Leader. Rachel and Rafael currently reside in Bogota, Colombia.
